Airbus Vahana

Description

Airlift was approached by Airbus to build a first of its kind autonomous flight experience. Our team looked at every touch point, from digital and physical experiences to the unique human factors and interactions found only in this aircraft.

We collaborated deeply with the Airbus team to ensure technical feasibility and accuracy in our process. For this project I was primarily involved in the UI and experience portions, while also having a key role in art direction and exterior design.

Concept Exploration 1

Liquid display— Inspired by the movement of airflow from the Vahana aircraft, the journey progress could be inferred visually through the density and speed of ripples.

Concept Exploration 2

Contextual Cards— Contextually focused, information would be shown to the passenger as the journey unfolded.  Visually, we aimed for the typography and pattern treatments seen in airport and visa documents.

Storyboard Examples

As we went forward with the liquid display concept, we also integrated the principle that throughout the journey, the aircraft would always be visible on screen. We directed a camera path so that the rendered aircraft would be able to take off, fly, and land in a seamless pan.
